The new Welcome Desk in the lobby of Neighbors Community Center is staffed by a team of regular, trained volunteers who create a space where:

  • New neighbors (resettled refugees, other immigrants, folks who’ve recently moved to Lancaster from other parts of the United States) can find information about and help with language learning, jobs, housing, healthcare, legal matters, community meals and food pantries, and more.
  • Established residents can sign up to help new neighbors by accompanying them to appointments, teaching them how to ride the bus or parallel park, explaining their mail, practicing English, and more.

The Welcome Desk is becoming a centralized hub of connection within a community that desires to continue its tradition of welcome despite the disruption of recent shifts in federal immigration policy and funding. The Welcome Desk will also bolster the City of Lancaster’s efforts to convert its current 3-star Certified Welcoming rating to a 4- or 5-star rating.

Your donations will help cover the cost of a cell phone/phone plan and access to translation services. Thank you for helping to ensure that our capacity to welcome new neighbors remains strong!
