At Neighbors Community Center, we provide a safe place for refugees, immigrants, and others to connect, learn, and celebrate! In 2025, we have had more than 200 students enrolled in our English program, led by volunteers. We ask a modest $25 registration fee to help cover the cost of materials. We offer scholarships to those who cannot afford to pay and we do not turn anyone away. This year, the majority of students have requested scholarships.
“This is the first place that helped me,” says Dalia, a Syrian woman whose friend recommended Neighbors Community Center as a place to learn English. Dalia signed up for classes in March and rarely misses class. When she does, she says she feels terrible.
Neighbors Community Center is close to home for Dalia and offers childcare. She has a young daughter, so that was also important. She said that being able to attend class and have her child taken care of made coming to class stress free. Her daughter is now in kindergarten, but still wishes she could come along with her mother to Neighbors Community Center.
Before moving to the U.S., Dalia and her family lived in Lebanon, where she worked in medical registration at a hospital and was an assistant to the hospital director. She would like to find a similar job in Lancaster, but knows that she needs to learn more English. Neighbors Community Center is here to help her and others like her do just that.
Where have our students lived before coming here? Afghanistan, Algeria, Algeria, Brazil, China, Colombia, Congo, Costa Rica, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Eritrea, France, Haiti, Iran, Jordan, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mali, Mexico, Morocco, Myanmar, Peru, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe.
Neighbors Community Center is a welcoming place to connect, learn, and celebrate!
