On February 5, 2017 my life was forever changed when I lost someone I loved, Shaun Mehal, to an accidental overdose. For the next several months I was lost and hopeless, but wanted desperately for Shaun to be remembered for the amazing person he was and all those he positively helped along his own personal recovery journey.
With the love, support, and encouragement of my friends and family, I was able to channel my profound grief into what would become one of my proudest accomplishments. In 2018 we created The Mighty Mehal Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to providing financial assistance to men and women pursuing a life of recovery in Lancaster County.
Since 2018 we have proudly awarded more than 160 scholarships to men and women in our recovery community. Scholarships are awarded on a monthly basis to those attempting to enter or maintain residence in local recovery homes. Recovery and sober living homes are crucial for individuals pursuing long-term sobriety as they offer structured, supportive, and drug-free surroundings that help mitigate relapse risks and facilitate the development of essential life skills. However, many people in recovery are faced with financial burdens that can prevent them from securing a safe, secure living environment and the resources available for those struggling to make ends meet are so limited.
All donations made to our foundation today will be directly applied to our scholarship program. We are striving to award multiple scholarships per month in 2026 as the need for funding within our community has never been greater.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting our mission and for making a difference in the lives of those pursuing a life of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
