When my children entered preschool, I began volunteering at their school library, a role I would love and prioritize in my schedule for more than a decade. In 2020, I resumed my role as library volunteer, this time serving on our Board of Trustees. As a Board Member, I have learned so much about the value our library provides to our community, to families, and to individuals who seek a trusted, safe space where they can seek knowledge, new experiences, and a sense of community.
Our library is vital to this community as a place of curiosity, exploration, learning, and belonging. Yes, we have books, MANY, MANY books - and so much more. Play Mah Jongg, borrow a telescope or musical instrument, get free seeds for your garden, visit with a social worker, learn computer skills, explore your genealogy, have your documents notarized - Adamstown Area Library provides all this and so much more to our community. I often say we "punch above our weight", a boxing metaphor that captures how much value we extract from every single dollar we receive, especially in the wake of slashed government funding. Our wonderful staff members maintain the highest standards of customer service to make every patron interaction an enjoyable and meaningful experience.
Please join me in donating to Adamstown Area Library during the Extra Give. Your donation says you support the need for free libraries to survive and thrive so everyone has access to unlimited books, educational materials, and new experiences that spark curiosity, promote a lifetime love of reading, and a foster a sense of belonging.
