Erin’s Story: Giving Back to the Programs That Shaped Her

Erin has been part of the GEARS family since 2017, but her connection goes back much further. As a child, Erin spent her summers laughing, playing, and growing at the GEARS Summer Playground program. Those experiences shaped some of her happiest memories — friendships formed under sunny skies, games that sparked confidence, and counselors who inspired her to dream big.

Years later, Erin came full circle. She returned to GEARS, this time not as a camper, but as a leader. Over the years, she’s poured her heart into Summer Playground, Youth Sports, Special Events, and Recreation programs — always bringing the same energy and care that made her own childhood summers so meaningful.

Her favorite event to host is the Daddy/Daughter Dance — a night filled with laughter, music, and memories that last long after the dance floor clears. But the programs that mean the most to Erin are Camp Ladybug and Summer Playground — two places where she sees the power of community and inclusion come to life every day.

Camp Ladybug offers children and adults with special needs a summer full of friendship and joy. Summer Playground gives kids in our community a safe, fun, and active way to spend their school break — just like it did for Erin all those years ago.

This year, Erin is fundraising to support these two incredible programs that hold a special place in her heart. Every donation helps make sure all kids — regardless of ability or background — can experience the same laughter, learning, and belonging that shaped Erin’s story.
