Lee’s Story: Leading with Heart, Inspiring through Sports
Since joining GEARS in 2021, Lee Eckert has made a lasting impact on the community through his dedication, energy, and genuine love for recreation. As the Recreation Director, Lee oversees a variety of youth sports programs — including one of his favorites, the Youth Basketball Program — where he teaches more than just the game. He teaches teamwork, confidence, and the joy of being part of something bigger.
Every season, you can find Lee out on the court cheering on young athletes, celebrating their growth, and reminding them that success isn’t just about the scoreboard — it’s about effort, respect, and having fun.
Beyond the gym, Lee helps bring smiles to families through community events like the annual Eggstravaganza Egg Hunt, where hundreds of children enjoy the thrill of the hunt and the magic of springtime fun. His creativity and leadership make these moments possible for so many families in the area. This event is 100% FREE to Children 12 and under in the surrounding community.
But one program that truly holds a special place in Lee’s heart is Camp Ladybug — a summer camp designed for children and adults with special needs. To Lee, Camp Ladybug represents the very best of what GEARS stands for: inclusion, joy, and community. Seeing campers laugh, play, and make lasting friendships reminds him why his work matters — it’s about creating opportunities for everyone to belong.
