About the Lancaster Area Kidney Association

The Lancaster Area Kidney Association (LAKA) is a truly local organization — founded right here in Lancaster over 50 years ago by patients living with kidney disease, and still guided today by local care providers and individuals who understand these challenges firsthand.

Every dollar raised stays in our community, supporting Lancaster County residents affected by chronic kidney disease. LAKA provides grants to help with urgent financial needs, nutrition support for those facing food insecurity, and educational and social programs that connect patients, families, and care teams beyond the walls of dialysis units and hospitals.

Mission

Founded in 1972 by patients supporting one another through home hemodialysis, the Lancaster Area Kidney Association (LAKA) continues to be a community of compassion, education, and hope for individuals and families affected by kidney disease.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for those living with kidney disease through education, social connection, and financial assistance. We believe that no one should face chronic kidney disease alone — or without the means to live well.

LAKA provides grants to help with financial hardships, sponsors community education, combats food insecurity through grocery and nutrition support, and fosters connection through annual social events that bring together patients, families, and care providers in a spirit of fellowship and remembrance.
