$40,000 Goal

Established in 1985, the Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon, through the Literacy & Learning Success Centers, offers adult basic and literacy education programming to approximately 600 adult learners throughout Lancaster and Lebanon counties each year (75% in Lancaster county). The services provided include:

  • English as a Second Language
  • High School Equivalency Exam preparation
  • basic reading and math
  • digital literacy
  • job and career readiness skills
  • health literacy
  • transition to post-secondary education
  • International Healthcare Professionals Program

Learning is offered through classes, small groups and one-on-one tutoring. Classes are offered to students for FREE, and are funded through federal, state, and local grant dollars. There are more than 86,000 adults in Lancaster county who struggle with basic literacy skills and English language fluency. These adults could benefit from the services provided through the Literacy Council, and we want to serve them. There are more than 1.6 million people in Pennsylvania who are lacking 21st century skills. Nine percent of adults ages 25 and over living in Pennsylvania do not have a high school credential. There are over 180,000 people living in PA who are limited in their English proficiency. The continued support of the community----in sharing our story and spreading the word about our work-----will help us make a dent in those Pennsylvania statistics. Donations through the Extraordinary Give will go directly to supporting our programming and helping us reach our goal of serving more students in our community.
