Housing access is a crack in the foundation of Lancaster’s heritage of welcome. ReHome changes that!
In 2021-2022, as the Housing Specialist at the largest resettlement agency in Lancaster, ReHome's co-founder Joe Landis witnessed our community mobilizing to continue its heritage of welcoming refugees - Afghans in particular at that time. He also saw first hand how housing insecurity holds new neighbors back from rebuilding their lives and giving back.
ReHome provides an online hub for the best local housing opportunities from welcoming landlords, so that newcomers are no longer shut out from rental housing.
When a household applies for a unit through
ReHome Marketplace, they access landlords who care about welcoming refugees, they avoid fees, and they can showcase their trustworthiness and dependability as tenants no matter how long they've been in the US.
When a household needs additional support to qualify for a unit, we help community initiatives fill the gaps. A guide for landlords to use our rental platform is
here, and a guide for refugees and their allies is
here.
It costs $4,500/month to run ReHome with one minimum-wage full-time employee, one unpaid part-time Head of Technology, and three software developer contributors who are themselves displaced individuals in Afghanistan, the UAE and Malaysia enrolled in MIT's
Emerging Talent program.
Your support allows us to continue developing ReHome Marketplace and ensure it's used to get more families into homes - in Lancaster first, and around the country. Thank you!!
