LUMINA



LUMINA is a word for light. We believe God calls us to let our light shine in times of hardship in our local community. LUMINA is a ministry reaching out to the poor in wealth and spirit. We are determined to be person-focused and aim to maintain flexibility in responding to the changing needs of our neighbors. We are a cooperative work of the United Methodist Churches of Lancaster County and beyond, committed to build a world in which loneliness and poverty are no longer ignored.  

Our mission: To share the love of God in practical ways by equipping and encouraging people who experience material or spiritual hardship. Our vision for Lancaster City: every person restored to the vital and productive life God intended.

LUMINA offers opportunities for personal and spiritual growth as well as practical support in these programs:

• Super Cupboard - Empowering families with nutrition knowledge, kitchen tools, healthy recipes, and cooking skills·        
• Kids Night - Mentoring children & youth - Christian discipleship made fun after school      
• Camper Care - Offering children & youth scholarships to a Christian summer camp·        
• Manifest - Helping to provide affordable homes through housing rehab partnerships·        
• Student Tools - Awarding new carpentry tools to graduating McCaskey High School students in the building trades·        
• Food Distributions - Offering free food monthly to neighbors who experience food insecurity·        
• Walking Alongside - Supporting families and individuals who are in danger of homelessness with financial grants.    

LUMINA is currently also hoping to purchase lockers for the homeless individuals who will use the new overnight emergency low-barrier shelter under construction at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 20 E. Clay Street. LUMINA continues to look for ways we can help the hurting and befriend the lonely regardless of religion, gender, ethnicity, or social background.
