Lancaster Safety Coalition

Since 2002, the Lancaster Safety Coalition (LSC) has been devoted to improving the safety and quality of life for all businesses, residents and guests to Lancaster.  Paid Camera System Operators monitor cameras about 16 hours daily.  Live monitoring allows real-time interaction with Lancaster Countywide Communications (911) dispatchers and sets Lancaster apart from similar camera programs that depend solely on unstaffed remote cameras. 

Lancaster is the only community in the nation with a public safety camera network owned and operated by a local independent nonprofit organization.  We support but operate independently of City and County government and law enforcement agencies. The LSC and its staff have maintained an unblemished record of service to the Lancaster community.   

In recent years, new technology and new operating practices have led to big improvements and big impact.  In each of 2021, 2022, and 2023, LSC provided more evidence than any year prior.  Since new cameras began to be installed in 2018, calls for services from Lancaster City police have dropped from 80,000 to just 50,000 annually.   LSC also continues to improve its success rate, the frequency at which we are able to provide evidence when requested, from 56% to 90% during that same period.
