Established in 1989, Jewish Family Service (JFS) is a social service agency serving people of Lancaster County, regardless of their religious affiliation. We strive to improve the lives of the most vulnerable Lancaster community residents. Our Jewish values of justice, compassion and respect are the driving forces behind our efforts.

  • We help residents facing eviction, utility shutoff, and other urgent needs.
  • Meet Susan, who received notice that her electricity would be shut off in 2 days because she owed $900. With her job hours cut, and her daughter in the hospital, she struggled to make minimum payments. Through JFS partnerships with other agencies, (in this case St Mary's Church), we were able to work out a payment plan to pay part of the $900. PPL worked out a long term payment plan for Wanda. Electricity stayed on!
  • Durable Medical Equipment Loans free of charge to anyone in the community who needs them.
  • Jose, who lived alone in a 2nd floor walk-up apartment, was scheduled to have knee replacement surgery. He couldn't afford to purchase needed equipment. Thanks to generous donations from our community to the JFS Durable Medical Loan Closet, JFS was able to loan Jose a knee scooter, a walker, and a commode. Jose was able to go into surgery with the comfort of knowing that he had the equipment he needed to help him get around post surgery.
