Hunters Sharing the Harvest

A nonprofit organization

Hunters Sharing the Harvest (HSH) is Pennsylvania’s nationally emulated venison donation program. Since 1991, HSH has coordinated the delivery and distribution of more than 2.8 million pounds of hunter-donated venison to food banks, food pantries, soup kitchens and churches throughout the Commonwealth. That generosity has provided more than 15 million servings of lean, high-protein venison to the food insecure. Hunters pay nothing to donate a deer. HSH participating processors are reimbursed for their services, resulting in our largest annual budgetary expense.

During the 2023-24 hunting season, Pennsylvania hunters donated 261,672 pounds of venison from 6,905 deer statewide. This was a new record and a nation-leading effort of hunters performing a social service on behalf of the food insecure in their communities.

Mission

We address food insecurity in Pennsylvania through the generosity of hunters and collaboration with strategic partners while helping to conserve and manage natural resources.
