Donegal Chapter of Trout Unlimited

A nonprofit organization

OUR STORY

Donegal Trout Unlimited:  We are an all-volunteer organization, with a mission " to protect, reconnect, restore, and sustain coldwater fisheries and their watershed in Lancaster County. Here are a few ways we support our mission:

Restoring Stream Buffers: Our mission is coldwater stream restoration projects throughout Lancaster County. To achieve this goal, we work with government agencies, engineering firms, and contractors to reestablish a riparian buffer using best management practices including livestock fencing and in-stream structures.

DTU oversees multiple projects from start to finish. Once the construction phase is complete, volunteers plant trees and shrub, supplied by Keystone 10 million Trees, along the buffer. For 5 years, DTU returns every year to inspect, correct, remove invasives, and replant trees. We are dedicated to our mission, our projects, and our future.

Trout in the Classroom:  TIC is in 35 classrooms and education centers in Lancaster. DTU provides, free of charge tank and equipment setup and PA Fish & Boat provides the eggs. A classroom will raise trout from eggs to fingerlings then release them in a local watershed. This program fosters a deep appreciation for health watersheds and children learn about the life cycle of wild trout and how dependent these rare species are on clean, cold-water streams.

Veterans Service Partnership (VSP):  DTU supports and an active VSP program. They meet monthly for fly-tying. With financial from DTU they organize day and weekend fishing trips. All veterans are welcome to join and membership in DTU is not required.

Donegal Trout Unlimited is committed to working with our Lancaster County community in support of cold-water conservation for wild trout, wildlife, and all generations who love to fish, get outdoors to recreate, or simply enjoy the rush of a beautiful stream! THANK YOU to amazing volunteers! Please join us!
