Chestnut Housing

Chestnut Housing provides affordable rental housing to people experiencing homelessness because a home is the foundation of a healthy and fulfilling life. We connect people and communities of faith with tangible ways to create more affordable homes in Lancaster.

Every month our staff receives email and phone messages like this: “I’m a single mom with four kids… currently living in a one-bedroom;” or “I’m a single person 64 years old in need of permanent housing.” Too often we must tell them all our apartments are already full.

There are simply more people looking for housing than there are available apartments and homes in our community.

That’s why we at Chestnut Housing are doing everything we can to create and preserve more housing options. But we cannot do this alone. We need many willing supporters, donors, and volunteers to join us in achieving our mission.

We’ve already had a tremendous outpouring of generosity this year, and the results are exciting. We are currently building eight new apartments on Rockland Street in the city – Milburn Apartments, we’re moving forward on purchasing a rooming house to preserve affordable options for the lowest-income residents in our community, and we’re well on our way planning for eleven new apartments at the former Strawberry Hill restaurant site in Lancaster.

Everyone should have a home. At Chestnut Housing Corporation, we believe that a safe, permanent, and affordable home is the foundation of a fulfilling life. We provide affordable rental housing for families experiencing homelessness. When people have a safe, permanent, and affordable place to live, they can participate more fully as family and community members.

In 2020 we are adding two more homes to our portfolio. With your help, we can do more! In the years ahead, CHC plans to purchase and renovate additional units to bring even more Lancastrians home. Bring hope and positive change to our community by giving extra!
