Strasburg-Heisler Library

In 1969, the Strasburg Women's Club opened a Reading Room within the Lutheran Manse. The all-volunteer staff kept track of the number of visitors and how many books were borrowed, in 3"x4" notebook. Today, our highly-skilled staff takes pride in our ability to offer our community a vast range of services in a comfortable atmosphere. Our 21,000 item collection has a solid base of reputably reviewed books, and includes several surprises such as celestial binoculars, American Girl dolls, STEM kits, games, art kits, and even a guitar and several ukuleles! Parent who bring their children to one of the many age-appropriate early-childhood education classes have made lasting friendships while their children sing songs, clap, wiggle & giggle, and learn that books have meaning. More is always in the works. The library has extended its hours on Saturdays to further its community engagement.

Who We Are

The Strasburg-Heisler Library directs 76% of its total budget on services to the community. The dedicated staff provides personal assistance to students, teachers, job-seekers, historians, and anyone seeking information or leisure pursuits. This year, over 1700 children participated in the annual Summer Reading Program, most of them completing the program allowing the library to boast the highest completion rate for Summer Reading in Lancaster County!
Our library has one of the highest lending rates per capita in Pennsylvania. It is powerhouse of customer service every day!
