Mennonite Disaster Service

A nonprofit organization

$84,355 raised by 372 donors

Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) recruits, organizes and empowers volunteers to repair and rebuild the homes of those impacted by disasters in the United States and Canada. As we respond with Christian love to serve people who would not otherwise have the means to recover, our goal is to restore hope and bring people home.

Last year 6,848 MDS volunteers gave their time, skills and compassion to build 79 new homes, complete 460 repairs, finish 378 cleanups, and build 9 new bridges for households who experienced a disaster.

MDS continues to respond to damage from Hurricane Helene in North Carolina by building houses and private bridges. The video below tells the story of a new bridge that replaced one destroyed by the floodwaters of Helene.

In the West, volunteers are building in response to wildfires in Maui and Washington state. Preparations are also underway to build houses in Southern California for people who lost their home to the Eaton Fire in January 2025.

We are grateful for the support of ExtraGive donors to make this possible. Together we can be the hands and feet of Jesus to those affected by disaster!
