Our mission at the American Heart Association is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. We currently fund over $26.8 million across more than 100 active cardiovascular research awards right here in Pennsylvania.100 years, we've been fighting heart disease and stroke, striving to save and improve lives.

• The American Heart Association is single largest non-government supporter of heart and brain health research in the United States, investing $6.1 billion since 1949. We currently fund over $26.8 million across more than 100 active cardiovascular research awards right here in Pennsylvania.
• We put that research into practice to benefit every heart and stroke patient in our region through our quality improvement programs in local hospitals, health clinics and EMS agencies that aim to improve patient outcomes.
• We advocate for policies that make our communities healthier. A few years ago, we were able to pass legislation to ensure all PA high school students are trained in Hands-Only CPR before graduation. Now, we’re working with the NFL and a coalition of organizations across the state to pass legislation that will ensure all schools have a cardiac emergency response plan, coaches and staffed are trained in CPR and AED use, and there are AEDs available at all school athletic events.
• Our Kids Heart Challenge programs are teaching kids in schools across the region how to take care of their physical and mental health and encouraging young people to explore careers in STEM.
• We train thousands of people every year in our region alone how to save a life with CPR.
• We take what we know about preventing heart disease and work with health care providers and other organizations in the community to improve nutrition security and help some of the most at-risk patients improve blood pressure and cholesterol management.
