Since its first concert in June 2002, Allegro Orchestra Lancaster has brought joyful music to the Lancaster community. Inspired by the vision of Founder and Artistic Director, Dr. Brian Norcross, the ensemble embodies the classic definition of music by Catherine Drinker Bowen as a “conversation between friends.” Most of Allegro’s immensely talented professional players are from Lancaster County. Their love of great music – and of playing together – shows in every performance.
We believe in the transformative power of experiencing a live, classical music performance. We make each concert special with Dr. Brian Norcross's live program notes, offering the audience some history, insight, and often humorous anecdotes for each piece. This fosters a stronger connection between the audience and the music, and breaks down barriers to this beautiful and longstanding art form.
We believe in accessibility; we do all we can to keep our ticket prices affordable. Our general admission ticket price is only $35, college students can attend for $10 with a valid student ID, and children 5-18 are always free when they attend with a paying adult!
Our mission is to expand the appreciation and love for classical music across multiple generations in Lancaster County by making great music accessible in new, friendly and playful ways. Join us!
At Nextgen, our vision is to provide learning opportunities for instrumental music students of all ages and abilities through individual instruction, performance ensembles, community involvement, and music appreciation.
We believe that every child should have the opportunity to develop their intellectual and artistic capacity through playing a musical instrument and participating in a variety of musical ensembles and opportunities.
We aim to support and supplement the work being done in public and private music education, and to provide resources that help students put to use and further what they learn in their school music programs and private lessons. Through these efforts, Nextgen aims to nurture love of the creative endeavor in Lancaster's next generation of musicians.
Nextgen is currently comprised of three ensembles: Crescendo, our Junior String Orchestra, is for our youngest musicians - Grades 4-6. Allegretto is for students grades 8-12, a premiere chamber orchestra. Overture is also for grades 8-12 is a challenging developmental full orchestra.
Nextgen is part of Allegro Orchestra Lancaster. Including the NextGen program, Allegro musicians range in age from 8 to 80.
All donations are received and receipted by Mightycause, a registered 501(c)3 charity that operates a donor advised fund to fulfill donor advisements. Any donation designated for Allegro through Mightycause will be given to Allegro as long as our organization retains 501(c)3 status.
