In a world where students spend over an hour on social media for every minute spent outdoors, the disconnect from nature is fueling heightened stress and mental health challenges. To address this, NorthBay, the nation’s largest Outdoor School, has partnered with the School District of Lancaster (SDOL) since 2019, offering a transformative five-day overnight experience that blends nature-based learning with Social Emotional Learning (SEL). This innovative approach not only boosts academic performance and critical thinking but also fosters social skills and personal connections, giving students hands-on learning opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. Initially funded by a federal grant, our partnership has made a significant impact on Lancaster’s 6th graders. However, with rising costs, continued funding is crucial to ensure that every student can benefit from this life-changing program. Your contribution will help secure permanent funding, allowing us to sustain and expand this essential initiative, paving the way for healthier, brighter futures for our students.
